When fisheries and wildlife junior Chris Long stepped out of his house onto Cedar Street on Monday night, he witnessed several police cars, a K-9 unit and at least six armed officers scattered throughout the streets of Cedar Village.
The commotion came from a drug raid carried out by the Michigan State Police’s Tri-County Metro Narcotics Section in a housing unit in Waters Edge Apartments, 1050 Waters Edge Drive.
East Lansing police Capt. Bill Mitchell said the department helped secure the area around the building while Tri-County Metro Narcotics Section entered the building and arrested one individual. Mitchell could not comment further, and Tri-County Metro Narcotics Section could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
Long witnessed the individual being removed from the building and put into a police car and described him as a white male with darker skin wearing a green shirt and basketball shorts.
He did not recognize the individual nor had he noticed any strange activity in the area as of late.
“I don’t feel super threatened or unsafe, but I was a little concerned that something that big happened so close to where I live,” Long said.
Resident Manager of Waters Edge and human biology senior Lauren Yoon said she knew nothing of the bust beforehand and was unaware that it had taken place.
