August 5, 2011

As the second basketball player to represent MSU internationally, senior forward Draymond Green was selected Wednesday to play for the USA men’s team at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China.

Green was one of the original 22 players selected to attend the team’s training camp at the U.S Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Green is joined in representing the Big Ten by Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe, and the team is coached by Purdue head coach Matt Painter.

The 26th World University Games runs from Aug. 12 to 23, and the first day of competition for the 12-man U.S. team is Aug. 13. After winning a bronze medal in 2009, the U.S. team is going for its first gold medal since 2005.

During the 2010-11 season with MSU, Green averaged 12.6 points and led the Spartans with an average 8.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists.
