Barryton, Mich., resident Chad Jeremy Kemp will stand trial in Ingham County’s 30th Judicial Circuit Court for four felony charges, including weapons possession and eluding police.
Kemp’s preliminary examination was held Aug. 10 before Judge Richard Ball in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court.
According to court documents, Ball bound over all four felony counts to circuit court. Those charges include receiving and concealing firearms, fleeing and eluding an officer, possession of firearms by a felon and felony possession of firearms second offense, as well as one misdemeanor charge of operating while intoxicated.
Kemp, 34, was arrested by MSU police Aug. 1 following a high-speed chase.
Police began pursuit of Kemp at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Mount Hope Road because his vehicle matched the description from a shots-fired complaint made in Lansing, according to a press release issued by MSU police.
According to the release, Kemp attempted to elude police by accelerating to speeds of more than 90 mph. Police were able to arrest him after he rolled his car off the curve of a US-127 entrance ramp.
Kemp was taken to Lansing’s Sparrow Hospital but later was released.
He currently is being held on $100,000 bond in the Ingham County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment in circuit court Aug. 24.
A judge from the 30th Judicial Circuit Court has not been assigned, and a pretrial hearing has not been set, Kemp’s attorney Mary Chartier-Mittendorf said.
