Former Spartan now with Lansing Lugnuts

July 4, 2011

Former MSU outfielder Eli Boike will join the Lansing Lugnuts roster after being promoted from the Vancouver Canadians, the Lugnuts and the Toronto Blue Jays announced Sunday.

After signing as a free agent with the Blue Jays in May, Boike was transferred between the two Toronto minor league teams — the Canadians being in the Northwest League and the Lugnuts in the Midwest League — after Lugnuts outfielder Markus Brisker was put on the seven-day disabled list.

Graduating from MSU in 2010, Boike finished his Spartan career leading the way with a .384 batting average and tying the team-high of eight home runs in 50 games. In seven games with Vancouver, he maintained a .370 average with 10 hits for 27 at-bats.
