Flietstra named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

October 4, 2010

MSU women’s soccer junior goalkeeper Jill Flietstra won her second Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award after posting back-to-back shutouts against Indiana and Purdue this weekend, the conference announced Monday.

Flietstra tallied nine saves in the two games, four in a 2-0 win over the Hoosiers and another five in a 2-0 win against the Boilermakers.

She has eight shutouts in 11 attempts this season and has yet to allow a goal to slip past her in DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field.

Fliestra leads the Big Ten in shutouts and could break the MSU women’s soccer team record for shutouts in a season, which is 12.
