Flietstra earns Big Ten defensive honor

MSU women’s soccer junior goalkeeper Jill Flietstra has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her back-to-back shutouts last weekend, the conference announced Monday.

The Spartans took on DePaul on Friday and Flietstra captured the shutout with two saves followed by Loyola-Chicago on Sunday, where she had six saves in a 3-0 win.

Flietstra currently leads the Big Ten with five shutouts and 33 saves on the season.

The junior and her team will hope to go to Bowling Green and capture another victory on Friday before opening up the conference schedule against Penn State.
