Academic Assembly elects leaders

April 21, 2010

ASMSU’s Academic Assembly elected Justin Epstein as chairperson for the upcoming 19th session Tuesday by a 15-2 margin.

Epstein, who represents the Eli Broad College of Business, was elected over College of Social Science representative Michael Lipphardt.

ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government.

James Madison College representatives Zachary Taylor and Chris Noffze were elected vice chairpersons for internal and external affairs, respectively.

Student Assembly will hold its elections Thursday night.

Taylor ran unopposed for the position of vice chairperson of internal affairs and was elected 16-0.

Noffze beat two other candidates — College of Social Science representative Kyle Pressley and Lipphardt — by a 6-3-1 margin for vice chairperson for external affairs.

Emily Storrer, who represents Lyman Briggs College on Academic Assembly, said she based her vote on the candidates’ composure during the question-and-answer session.

“I think experience is great; I think knowledge is great,” Storrer said.

“But for me, it was about how they interacted naturally with us as representatives and as students. Their jobs are about interacting with people — that is what it is all about.”
