The MSU Board of Trustees concluded 2009 by voting to approve several multimillion dollar construction projects, including the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, at its Dec. 4 meeting.
The board green-lighted the museum’s ground-breaking, which is expected to happen this spring. Previous estimates from university officials place the museum’s total cost about $40 million.
Also at the meeting, MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon declined a salary increase for the second year in a row, citing future financial uncertainties for the university. The board passed a resolution recognizing Simon’s request that it not raise her $520,000 salary.
The board also authorized a $43.2 million expansion to the Plant and Soil Sciences Building, with construction slated to begin in mid-May.
