MSU will announce the Spartan Scholarship Challenge this weekend in hopes of raising millions for students in need of scholarships sparked by an anonymous gift of $10 million to the university in April.
The university will match $1 for every $2 from the donor and match that up to $1 million, said Robert Groves, vice president for University Advancement, MSU’s fundraising branch.
An excess of more than $1 million a year could be generated from the challenge, he said. The donor specified $7 million of the donation be used for scholarships.
President Lou Anna K. Simon will announce the challenge to donors at a dinner before the football game this weekend.Meredith Skrzypczak
