RHA approves fall budget

September 16, 2009

The Residence Halls Association, or RHA, on Wednesday voted unanimously to approve its $472,848 fall semester budget.

RHA is an on-campus student government group that represents all students living in residence halls.

A carryover of $105,798.84 from spring and summer budget funds and $367,050 collected from the $25 tax collected from students living in residence halls made up the total number. The funds were allocated after a series of meetings with the executive committee and the organizations Committee on Budget, said Keith Mika, RHA’s chief financial officer.

“It was a lot of work,” Mika said. “(I spent) at least a week and a half of strictly budget work.”

RHA President Emma Perot said she was pleased to pass the semester’s budget, which helps fund RHA’s on-campus services. Included in these services is free movie showings for students, events such as concerts and free movie rentals for students living in residence halls at several dorm locations.

“I’m very excited the budget was passed,” Perot said. “We can start putting the money to good use and … we’ll be able to see the effects of it on campus.”
