Izzo lines up another strong schedule

September 2, 2009

The MSU men’s basketball team will once again play a tough schedule in 2009-10, facing nine teams that played in the 2009 NCAA Tournament and 14 teams that participated in postseason play.

The premiere competition begins in MSU’s second game of the season, when the Spartans host Gonzaga on Nov. 17. The Spartans also will compete in the Legends Classic in Atlantic City, N.J., where they will face Florida on Nov. 27 in a rematch of the 2000 National Championship game, which the Spartans won, 89-76.

On Dec. 1, MSU will have another National Championship game rematch, when the Spartans travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face reigning National Champion North Carolina as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. MSU also will continue its series with Texas on Dec. 22 in Austin, Texas.

In the 18-game Big Ten Conference season, the Spartans will have single games against Ohio State (home) and Indiana (away) while playing all other teams twice. The Spartans will open up the conference season on Jan. 2 at Northwestern, and will play their first home conference game on Jan. 6 against Wisconsin. The Spartans will wrap up their regular season with back-to-back home games against Penn State and Michigan.
