Two-week road closure to begin

April 19, 2009

Parts of a four-block stretch of East Kalamazoo Street in Lansing will be closed for two weeks beginning today to replace lead service lines in the Lansing water system.

The work is part of the Lansing Board of Water & Light’s program to replace every service line in the municipal system. The Board of Water & Light, or BWL, is more than halfway complete with its 10-year program that began in 2005 to replace the city’s 13,000 lines.

From April 20-24, westbound lanes of East Kalamazoo Street from Eighth Street to Clifford Street will be closed. From April 27 to May 6, all lanes on East Kalamazoo Street will be closed between Pennsylvania Avenue and Clifford Street.

Following the work, the city will resurface the portion of Kalamazoo Street on May 5-6.

The BWL also will replace lead service lines serving customers on portions of East Mount Hope Avenue from April 20-27 and will require a lane shift. From May 6-13, seven blocks of East Mount Hope Avenue will be closed from South Pennsylvania Avenue to South Cedar Street.
