MSU finishes 2nd in USA Today/ESPN poll

The MSU men’s basketball team finished the season at No. 2 in the final USA Today/ESPN poll released Tuesday.

National champion North Carolina received all 31 first-place votes.

Fellow Final Four teams Connecticut and Villanova came in at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

Purdue was the only other Big Ten team to appear in the poll, finishing at No. 14.

MSU defeated four teams that finished in the top 25 during its NCAA Tournament run.

In addition to Connecticut, Louisville finished at No. 5 and 2008 national champion Kansas finished at No. 10.

Southern Cal, MSU’s second-round opponent, finished just outside the top 25.
