E.L. named 'Tree City' in honor of Arbor Day

April 21, 2009

The city of East Lansing has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 22nd year.

The recognition is given to cities that have a continual commitment to community forestry. East Lansing was recognized for its reforestation program, annual observance of Arbor Day and efforts to educate the community.

To observe Arbor Day on Friday, city officials will visit Pinecrest Elementary School, 1811 Pinecrest Drive, to plant a tree with students.

In upcoming weeks, the city is expected to plant 45 new trees.
