A second MSU football player pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges originating from an October brawl at an off-campus party, officials from East Lansing’s 54-B District Court said.
Freshman running back Glenn Winston originally entered a plea of not guilty Dec. 23 to one count of aggravated assault and
one count of assault and battery.
He now faces up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine for the charge of aggravated assault, and 93 days in jail and a $500 fine for the charge of assault and battery.
Winston is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:15 p.m. April 29 at 54-B District Court.
“Glenn Winston has been suspended immediately and indefinitely from all football-related activities,” MSU head football coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement through MSU Athletic Communications following Winston’s guilty plea.
Winston is the second and final football player to plead guilty to charges stemming from the Oct. 19, 2008, brawl outside of a house on Center Street. The other defendant, freshman walk-on wide receiver Mitchell White, pleaded guilty in February.
White is scheduled to be sentenced today at East Lansing’s 54-B District Court.
The Oct. 19 fight resulted in the hospitalization of MSU hockey player A.J. Sturges, a sophomore defenseman. Sturges sustained a fractured skull and concussion.
