Police: Student deaths unrelated

February 12, 2009

Recent deaths of MSU students Don Ausman and Kevin Boskey do not seem to be related, police said.

MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor and Capt. Kim Johnson of the East Lansing Police Department said the public should not be concerned about any contagious illness causing the deaths.

Johnson said the departments currently have no plans to collaborate in investigating the deaths.

“We’re not working together whatsoever,” Johnson said. “They are totally separate cases.”

Ausman, a 22-year-old interdisciplinary studies in social science and international studies senior from Northville, was found dead Jan. 28 in his Spartan Village apartment.

Boskey, a 21-year-old finance senior from Farmington Hills, was found dead Feb. 6 in his Woodmere Avenue home. Autopsies for both Ausman and Boskey yielded no conclusive results.

Ingham County Medical Examiner Dean Sienko has said it will take between four and six weeks for toxicology reports to be completed.

McGlothian-Taylor said MSU police also are waiting on toxicology reports from Ausman’s death before they will issue a full report on the incident.
