A 21-year-old male student was arrested for retail fraud after attempting to sell textbooks back to the store he had stolen them from, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.
The student tried to sell six textbooks on Thursday back to Spartan Bookstore in the International Center. The student attempted to use a receipt that a store employee deemed suspicious and police were called. The textbooks were valued at $229, McGlothian-Taylor said.
The student told police this was the second time he had committed fraud. He also sold back stolen books for $104 on Feb. 3.
Police have sent a report of the incident to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office for review, McGlothian-Taylor said.
