Good sportsmanship includes student behavior in the stands

Watching the MSU vs. Minnesota basketball game (Wednesday) was a great joy — I love when our team shows how dominant it can be. This is even better for me because I now live with three Michigan graduates and when we win, it makes them more scared of when we face them next week.

However, during the game, the Izzone, one of the top student sections in the country, started chanting “Wash your face” to Colton Iverson while he was taking free throws. There is a fine line a student section should tread in being a creative distraction to the opposing team and just being a group of immature students. Making fun of a person’s physical appearance is not the way the Izzone should represent itself. I know that the namesake of the student section would not approve of that. I understand that you should want to make the opposing team miserable, but next time you are at a game, you should know that you are representing your university, so try to bring creativity, not offensiveness.
