Learning center to aid research

January 19, 2009

The Archives of Michigan will unveil the David and Betty Morris Learning Center at a 4 p.m. ceremony on Thursday in the Archives Reading Room at The Archives of Michigan, 702 W. Kalamazoo St., in Lansing. The ceremony will be hosted by the Michigan Historical Center Foundation, according to a news release.

The learning center features a Governor’s Reading Room, which will allow students to experiment with the decision-making process and challenges of the governor and Cabinet during different periods in history. The center also has a research room where students will have access to original documents, including photographs, maps, letters, diaries and other resources to use in research projects. Audio and visual broadcasts, possibly online teaching aids, will be available for use.

In 2005, Morris pledged an estate gift worth approximately $7.5 million for research, teaching and extension activities to MSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
