He dreamt of change

January 14, 2009

Sen. Barack Obama gave a speech at Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 671 in Monroe on Monday. His speech revolved around labor and the current storm in New Orleans.

One man told the world his dreams 46 years ago, envisioning an America where everyone is equal, no matter race, religion, gender or age. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for diversity and earned the respect of a nation, marked by Monday’s national holiday in his honor. • Less than 24 hours after MLK Day, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the first U.S. president of color, marking another step toward racial equality. • This section pays homage to King, his dreams and others who have paved the way for diversity.
