Students hopeful for scholarships

Six MSU students and one MSU alumnus have been nominated for Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell and Churchill scholarships, prestigious nationwide awards for continuing education.

Biology senior Stephanie Dawes, international relations senior Yvette Efevbera and MSU alumnus Ramy Goueli are competing for both Rhodes and Marshall scholarships.

Mechanical engineering senior Amanda Ruhno is competing for a Marshall Scholarship. Biosystems engineering senior Michael Wiederoder and international relations and comparative cultures and politics senior Tanya Rodriguez are competing for Mitchell Scholarships and materials science and engineering senior Rob Friederichs is competing for a Churchill Scholarship.

All of the nominated students are members of the MSU Honors College and were nominated for the awards by faculty and alumni for their academic accomplishments.

The scholarships are awarded nationwide to exceptional undergraduates to help fund their continuing education abroad. The Rhodes and Churchill scholarships support the education of students at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, respectively, while the Marshall and Mitchell scholarships allow students to study at any university in the United Kingdom and Ireland, respectively.

MSU has produced 16 Rhodes Scholars, 16 Churchill Scholars, 13 Marshall Scholars and one Mitchell Scholar.
