I have found the letter by Robin Moore, Ranking system of girls at parties degrading, kills fun, about Alpha Epsilon Pi’s Halloween party; Erin Miller’s letter that stuck up for sexual self-expression, Halloween not just an excuse to roam streets scantily-clad ; and finally Catherine Fish’s column, Judging girls on wardrobe wrong, examining inter-female wardrobe judgment collectively to be educational on some women’s views of modesty, intimacy, and sexuality and their effects.
I’m sorry, I truly am, that women have had their self-esteem, sexuality and persons so ruthlessly targeted. I don’t know if I could handle that sort of indirect and direct constant pressure.
This is all good to be aware of because I am part of a team leading a retreat Nov. 14-16 with my church, St. John Student Parish. The retreat is titled, “Intimacy: You, God and Society” and we’ll be discussing just that. This sort of reflection seems to be important for all of us, no matter the creed, to lead a balanced, well-rounded life. You can start with the question, “Do I love others as much as I love myself?” and vice versa.
