Attacks by candidates solve nothing, divide Americans

As the election dwindles down to its final days, the candidates are thrashing about in their final attempt to discredit their counterpart. The attack ads, negative comments and the meager endeavors to disqualify their opponent to win a seat in the White House are visible in just about every newspaper, commercial, Web site or wherever else you look.

Regardless of the lessons we learned as a child to be respectful of others, the verbal abuse and criticisms have reached an all-time high this year. Rather than addressing issues and proposing a viable reform strategy when the country is facing some of the most significant problems and is on the verge of economic ruin, it seems all the candidates can resort to is questioning the abilities of the opponent.

These disheartening and inefficient campaign strategies are ineffective and fail to contribute to the country’s well-being. The campaigns are dividing Americans and helping to push the country deeper into the realms of debt and disaster.

Because of the great importance of this election, Americans are taking every aspect of each campaign to heart and are housing powerful feelings about their candidate of choice. Barack Obama and John McCain are guilty of exploiting these opportunities and creating a sense of fear in the public. I’m afraid that no matter who wins, they’re going to receive a severe disapproval by the other side.

I just hope that whatever the outcome may be on Tuesday, the American people are still able to come together as they always have. I hope we are all able to put aside our differences and get to work to re-establish our prominence in the world.

I hope we take advantage of our unfavorable situation and rise up against the odds to come out on top, something that America is known for. Whoever takes office next year needs our support, so let’s stand together for our country.
