Fundraiser to help children's hospital

November 11, 2008

Hoping to improve on the $15,000 raised last year, MSU’s Up ‘Til Dawn fundraising group will host its annual letter-sending party at 6 p.m. tonight at St. John’s Catholic Student Parish, 327 M.A.C. Ave.

The group is MSU’s branch of the nationwide college campus organization that helps raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Tonight, participants will bring addresses of friends and family and send to them pre-written letters describing the hospital’s goal and asking for a donation. St. Jude — a worldwide leader in cancer research — doesn’t charge its patients for anything they can’t afford themselves and operates solely on donations.

“(The party is) just to kind of raise awareness about what St. Jude’s hospital does,” said Margaret Dean, the Up ‘Til Dawn team organization manager. “And it hits close to home because everyone knows someone who’s had cancer.”
