Student receives Cedar Fest sentence

November 13, 2008

A supply chain management junior was sentenced Thursday to 40 days in the Ingham County Jail for his participation in April’s Cedar Fest riot.

Paul J. Tonn, who was found guilty by jury of possession, use or handling of fireworks and minor in possession, was sentenced by East Lansing 54-B District Court Judge Richard D. Ball.

Tonn’s bail was revoked and he spent 40 days in the Ingham County Jail prior to his July trial because he broke a pre-trial condition that prohibited him from consuming alcohol.

Tonn also was sentenced to complete one year probation and pay $1,514.40 in total fines and costs. Of those fines, $1,074.40 is restitution to the city of East Lansing for police expenses and property damage incurred during the Cedar Fest riot.

The court also issued an order restricting Tonn from entering or enrolling in any Michigan public community college or university until May 15, 2009.
