Authorities investigate possible suspect in Wright Township quadruple homicide

October 20, 2008

Officials from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a possible connection between the Wright Township homicide that killed an MSU student and three others, and a 31-year-old man who was arrested Thursday by Grand Rapids police for two incidents in Grand Rapids, said Ottawa County sheriff’s Lt. Mark Bennett.

Troy Brake, of Grant, Mich., was arrested for allegedly shooting a man and assaulting a prostitute at South Division Avenue and Hall Street in Grand Rapids, according to The Grand Rapids Press.

But Grand Rapids police and Ottawa County sheriffs are looking into information that could connect Brake to the quadruple homicide that took place Sept. 29.

Katherine A. Brown, who was an agribusiness management sophomore, was killed by blunt force trauma. Jeremy Zimmer, 20, who was dating Brown; his mother Sharmaine Zimmer, 53; and his brother Tyler Zimmer, 17, were shot in their home, which was then set on fire.

Brake has not been named a suspect in the Wright Township homicide, Bennett said.

He is being held in the Kent County Jail on a $2 million bond for the Grand Rapids charges.
