MSU basketball legend to visit

September 22, 2008

Former MSU and Los Angeles Lakers basketball star Earvin “Magic” Johnson will be in Lansing on Wednesday to lend his image to Sen. Barack Obama’s Democratic presidential campaign.

Johnson is a Lansing native who led the Spartans to a 1979 national title before embarking on a superstar career with the Lakers.

He will host a town hall discussion on urban policy at Lansing’s Pattengill Middle School, 626 Marshall St.

He will be joined by Earl Graves, publisher of Black Enterprise Magazine, and Melody Barnes, Obama’s senior domestic policy advisor.

The group will discuss issues affecting urban areas and Obama’s plan for Michigan cities.

The free event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
