The awards just keep on coming for MSU hockey player Jeff Lerg.
The senior goaltender was named a first team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America and ESPN The Magazine on Tuesday, making him the sixth player in school history to win the prestigious honors both on the ice and in the classroom, according to MSU Sports Information.
Lerg, a finance major who will captain for the Spartans next season, had a 3.75 grade-point average after the fall semester.
In May, Lerg was recognized as the Michigan College Athlete of the Year — an award given to one in-state male and female every year — for his academic and athletic accolades.
