Clinton's run inspirational

June 17, 2008

I’ve learned from many women throughout the years, each of whose struggles and accomplishments have taught me that I can pursue and be anything I desire. I learned from my mother that sometimes strength is all that is needed to endure adversities. From the activism of Sojourner Truth, I learned that no obstacle is too large to overcome. From Gov. Jennifer Granholm, I learned women have the ability to do what some would consider a man’s job and from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, I learned that perseverance is the key to success.

Of the many women who have impacted my life in some shape or form, Clinton’s accomplishments are examples I will be sure to follow for the rest of my life.

The best role model any young lady can have today is Clinton. She has crossed boundaries no woman before ever dared to. To be the first woman to ever attempt to win the presidential nomination of a major political party is a milestone in itself. And knowing that her involvement caused it to be one of the closest races for any presidential nomination only adds to the prestige.

Clinton has done just as good a job — and maybe even better — than most male candidates before her had done in trying to capture a presidential nomination.

Although she did not win, the fact that she continued to fight for the position long after people declared her campaign a lost cause proved to me that anything I want — if I want it badly enough — is worth fighting for.

This may have been a man’s world 50 years ago, but I can assure you that’s not the case anymore. Women have been and still are making immense strides in American and world history, and Clinton is evidence that there is more to come — maybe sooner than later.

There’s been talk about Sen. Barack Obama choosing Clinton as his vice president and if he does, then history will be made once again.

Personally, I think it would be a great move by Obama. Clinton is more than qualified for the position. She’s aggressive, she knows her way around the political field, and behind every strong man, there should stand a strong woman.

Whoever said women and politics don’t mix couldn’t have been more wrong. We might not see a female take the seat at the desk in the Oval Office next year, but Clinton’s accomplishments have opened up doors for myself and any other woman who wants to make that dream a reality. So it won’t be long before employees of the White House are answering to Mrs. President.
