UAB hosting swing, salsa lessons

January 23, 2008

The University Activities Board and MSU will host the second annual Super Swing N’ Salsa Spectacular Saturday in the Union.

From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., patrons can participate in dance lessons and enjoy free MSU Dairy Store ice cream provided by UAB. Admission is free to MSU students and the general public.

UAB student director Matt Mergener said the event was brought back for a second run after a successful debut last year.

“It was a huge success,” Mergener said. “We had close to 700 people, so we’re just trying to make it bigger and better this year.”

The event will feature swing music from Grand Rapids-based Rhythm Section Jazz Band and salsa music from Mis.Match Productions. Swing lessons will be held in the Union ballroom, while salsa lessons will be held in the main lounge.

“It’s gonna be a lot more decked-out than it was last year,” Mergener said.
