Boasting drunken behavior unnecessary, annoying

Is it just me, or can anyone else think of better ways to enjoy the college experience than being drunk, talking about how drunk you are, how often you get drunk, and making sure everyone sees how drunk you are? I will never understand the need some people have to advertise the fact they are drunk. Living in a dorm provides many wonderful opportunities, but I wouldn’t classify listening to people yell profanity down hallways and do somersaults at all hours of the night as part of them. Alcohol is a shockingly popular thing on most college campuses, but it seems like the loud, obnoxious attitudes that accompany it shouldn’t happen simply by default.

As a resident mentor on campus, I believe most people know their limits and accept responsibility for themselves. I feel very fortunate to meet people with that level of accountability. But why some people feel the need to get into cursing matches with strangers and prove to as many people as possible just how much they can stumble around, mumbling incoherently, will always be a mystery to me. Alcohol is an instrument of entertainment — for better or for worse — and if you choose to engage in it, please, please spare the bystanders.
