Not all MSU hockey fans showed impressive spirit

It was a tale of two student sections Saturday at the hockey game against Michigan. To the majority of the students, primarily to those to the right of the band: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thank you for actually standing up. Thank you for participating in the cheers. Thank you for, well, trying your darndest to sieve Billy Sauer. Thank you for helping me and other Slapshots with the “Go Green” chant. And, overall, thank you for your participation.

For the first time in a long time, we took steps toward being a unified student section. Although I have no clue how it sounded on TV — at Munn Ice Arena, despite a couple of dead spots — it was noisy and that’s a great thing.

That said, to the students to the left of the Slapshots section — shame on you. Shame on you for doing nothing. Shame on you for sitting. Shame on you for being mute.

Overall, we did well Saturday. To the students to the right of the band, I ask only that you keep it up, and continue to participate in the upcoming Nebraska-Omaha series and well beyond. You were, for lack of a better word, awesome.

To the students to the left of the Slapshots, would it kill ya to participate? Or, you know, stand? Saturday night was magical. Despite the final outcome, all was truly right with the world. We’ve wounded Munn’s reputation of being “library-esque.” Now, I ask my fellow students to insert the final dagger. Seriously, I cannot express enough gratitude.
