Radical feminists' actions mistaken, have sex lives too

As a radical feminist, I feel the need to clarify two points for Thea Neal and the MSU community. Firstly, feminists would never criticize The State News for allowing Neal to write something, as she claimed in her column, Women should embrace sex life (SN 1/18). Neal is exercising her right to free speech — rock on Neal.

That being said, I would like to call your attention to the fact that feminists have never actually burned bras. It’s actually just a well-repeated myth — although we’re considering doing it next semester if we can get a burning permit. More importantly, there is actually an entire branch of feminism dedicated to the notion of women reclaiming their sexuality and I urge you to check it out before you refer to the women’s movement as if it were out-of-date and man-hating.

Some of us have very vibrant sex lives, although I’m not sure where the likes of Tucker Max fit in. If you don’t believe me, you can find some great feminist erotica in “Jane Sexes It Up” by Merri Lisa Johnson, or read the wiki entry on sex-positive feminism. Who knows, you might even learn something. So buy a vibrator, read “Jane Sexes It Up” and stop putting down radical feminists without doing your homework.
