I was shocked to read Mark Dantonio’s response to how the Michigan football team handled itself after beating MSU in With Dantonio, MSU, U-M will become rivalry (SN 11/6). The postgame moment of silence U-M conducted was understandable — but still not classy — considering that Dantonio had made a comment that maybe there should be a moment of silence after U-M lost to Appalachian State. Maybe the MSU community and Dantonio should question what they want more: U-M to lose or MSU to win. The Appalachian State win over U-M was not a victory for MSU as it seems to be perceived.
Another thing that bothered me was Dantonio’s response to Mike Hart’s comments that MSU was U-M’s little brother. While Hart has had a tendency to run his mouth and say things he should not say, Dantonio should know better. To make fun of Hart’s size was a very childish thing to do. Dantonio should have focused on discussing what went wrong in the fourth quarter of the game and looked forward to next week’s game instead of partaking in mudslinging with U-M. Dantonio was right about one thing during his tirade about U-M: He will be at MSU for a while. But Hart is graduating this year, so what was the point of criticizing him? Dantonio cannot beat U-M in the future by being angry and issuing comments like this.
