This is meant to be a letter of awareness to the students that comprise the student section of the MSU football games. I feel some topics need to finally be addressed in hopes that they will be corrected. Right now, we (the student section as a whole) look like a drunken slop. It shouldn’t be too hard to sing the fight song in unison with the band that is literally right in front of our faces. We don’t sound too united or intimidating to the opposing team when we can’t clap the same beat or chant along with the band.
Another critique I have of my fellow fans is the total disregard for the personal space of the people around us. The past three games I always notice several instances of fans being too rowdy and bumping, shoving and elbowing those around them. I also have a good laugh at the fact that it always seems that the most vocal students during the games are the ones that seem to know the very least about the game of football. Chanting expletives at the officials for calling a correct penalty against the Spartans, or as in the case last week, booing and cursing Brian Hoyer for being sacked, makes you look ignorant. Finally, why are we cheering when second tier teams are destroying Minnesota or other Big Ten teams? Let me put it in a way that students alike can comprehend: MSU student section midterm grade: D+.
