Slip of tongue by castmate doesn't validate insults

In response to ‘The Vagina Monologues’ report incorrect, upsetting (SN 8/30), Julia Dillard and Marissa Yardley complained that my story in the Red Cedar Log yearbook inaccurately cited the show had a cancellation. This is what Amy Geiser, the performer cited throughout the story, told me. As Stefanie Spiro, another performer, commented on the online edition of the letter to the editor, Geiser may have been confused or misspoke in saying the Friday show was canceled when it was actually the typical Saturday show that was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

A simple slip of the tongue by Geiser is by no means a major conflict, but Yardley and Dillard took it upon themselves to take shots at myself and the hardworking editorial staff of last year’s book, of which I was an editor, saying our story would put the “integrity of the show at risk” and complaining that we should have checked facts. However, when calling multiple sources last year for the story, Geiser was the only person to respond.

If Yardley and Dillard are so concerned about what’s being said about their production (which I still encourage everyone to check out), then they should make sure to answer their phones and check their e-mail, and tell their castmates to do the same – when and if the yearbook or any other publication calls again.
