Broken cable causes power outage

August 31, 2007

A couple hundred East Lansing residents were left in the dark around 9 p.m. Thursday, the result of a broken underground cable that cut power to parts of the city.

Mark Nixon, communications director for the Lansing Board of Water and Light, said the company quickly repaired the problem and was able to restore power to all but roughly 50 customers by midnight.

This is the second time an East Lansing underground cable has left
customers without power in recent months. About 4,000 customers
were without power in late May when a backup cable to a faulty
underground cable was cut.
