Harris Nature Center August events

July 27, 2007

At 6 p.m. Aug. 15, The Harris Nature Center, 3998 Van Atta Road, in Meridian Township, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a barbecue, which is open to the public. The event will be at the center, and visitors should bring a dish to pass. The center will provide meat, beverages and tableware.

The nature center also is hosting "McGruff's Pet Party," an event that allows children to bring their pets to try out the dog agility course, visit with a groomer and meet the K-9 police officer. The event will take place from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 14.

There will be a pet parade led by McGruff the crime-fighting dog, who also will be available for pictures with the pets. There is a $2 fee per child.

The monthly nature stories and walk programs at the Harris Nature Center will continue at 10 a.m. Aug. 16. The story time is called "Everybody Needs a Rock," and is open to preschool and elementary school children. The fee is $3 per child, per session.

To reserve a spot in the group, call (517) 349-3866.
