Police briefs 06/15/07

A 79-year-old woman from Williamston reported her purse stolen from her car Tuesday after attending a meeting at the Clinical Center, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.Between 6-9 p.m. in Lot 100, the woman reported her $50 purse, $50 wallet with ID and credit cards, a $50 Samsung cell phone and $200 in cash had been stolen from her 2001 Oldsmobile, McGlothian-Taylor said.There were no signs of forced entry into the car that was parked on the east side of the lot, and the woman believes she had locked the car. However, she did leave her purse on the floor of the car, McGlothian-Taylor said.Two female students reported having their purses stolen between 2:25-2:50 p.m. Tuesday in Erickson Hall, McGlothian-Taylor said.The students were attending a teacher education class in the hall when a fire alarm sounded. Both students exited the building with the class and after 10 minutes, returned to get their backpacks. They both noticed their backpacks had been opened and their purses were missing, McGlothian-Taylor said.One student discovered her $40 purse, $20 wallet with various identification and a $10 bill had been taken. The other had her $85 wallet, $30 and various credit cards, a Nextel cell phone and $200 Apple iPod stolen, McGlothian-Taylor said.Ashley A. Smith
