Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was fined $100,000 last week for wearing a cap during Super Bowl media day that promoted a sponsor not authorized by the league. The sponsor? "Chicago Bears: Super Bowl Champions" merchandise.

Hip-hop star Lil' Romeo has reportedly signed a basketball scholarship with Southern Cal. In a related story, Michigan has taken the scholarship recently rescinded by recruit Alex Legion and offered it to Hilary Duff.

Suspended Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones bought a full-page newspaper advertisement last week to print an open apology letter to fans.

Jones paid for the ad in singles.

The NCAA Board of Directors voted last week to ban the use of text messaging in the recruiting process.

Upset by the ruling, the coaches' association said in a statement, ?"r u kdng? that sux!"
