For 10 years in a row, a State News photographer has won College Photographer of the Year honors from the Michigan Press Photographers Association. Jeana-Dee Allen, an anthropology senior, took first place in the contest this year for her work at The State News and the Jackson Citizen Patriot.
Award winners are drawn from student journalists across the state and were announced Saturday at the association’s annual conference in Lansing. A record 18 students entered the contest.
State News photo editor Katie Rausch, a journalism junior, received second-place honors.
Each year, the organization brings in top photographers from newspapers across the nation to judge students’ work. Entrants submit portfolios of their published and unpublished work, which can be drawn from both student publications and work done while on professional internships.
