A 19-year-old female student reported a fraud incident Tuesday, Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The Butterfield Hall resident said she had gone with her boyfriend and her boyfriend's younger sister to a retail center a couple months ago to add Verizon phone lines to her cellular phone account for each of them, under the conditions they would pay the bills. The younger sister had not paid the December bill, so the student canceled her service. The younger sister then called the company and impersonated the student on several occasions to reactivate the service. The younger sister had racked up about $100 in charges, Sgt. McGlothian-Taylor said. The student's boyfriend and his younger sister do not have any university affiliation. The incident is still under investigation.A 21-year-old male student reported his laptop stolen from the Alfred Berkowitz Basketball Complex on Tuesday, Sgt. McGlothian-Taylor said. The student said he had left the $900 Hewlett Packard Pavilion silver and black laptop in a cloth carrying case in a room that he later left. When he returned, he found his laptop was missing from the case. The student said he witnessed two men walking around the building earlier, who had both walked out of the complex when sighted. Later, an employee noticed two doors had been left unlocked. The two men are described as weighing 180 pounds each, both 5-feet 10-inches, with black hair, brown eyes and medium skin tones. One was wearing a black trench coat, camouflage pants and a backpack. The second suspect was wearing a black hat. The incident is still under investigation.Laura Misjak
