RHA president resigns abruptly

December 1, 2006

Representatives from the Residence Halls Association said they were shocked to learn of Lindsay Palinsky's resignation as president of the organization.

"For the most part, many of the members were taken off guard," said Michelle Dickinson, RHA director of public relations and advertising. "It was kept private just because we didn't want a ton of questions directed toward Lindsay or the association."

Palinsky, who assumed the RHA presidency last April, said her resignation was due to personal reasons, and she would be willing to help student government officials any way she can.

"It has been an amazing experience, and I really have learned a lot being involved in RHA," Palinsky said.

Dickinson said she trusts Palinsky in her decision that she could no longer fulfill her duties as president. Mark Dobson, who was RHA's vice president, assumed the role of president at Wednesday's meeting after Palinsky abruptly resigned.

"Mark is great with interacting with people, and the second he became president, he knew what he was doing," Dickinson said.

"He has great plans for RHA and will hopefully bring RHA up to the level we want it to be."

Dickinson added she was impressed with how quickly the members of the association adjusted to the transition.

"It went better than I have ever imagined," she said.

Dobson said while he is fully committed to his new position, he will take on a dual role to ensure the day-to-day responsibilities of the vice presidency until someone is elected.

The elections will take place in February. Dobson will remain RHA president until that time.

"I have understood this was something I could be called to do. I am excited for the position," Dobson said.

"I'm also looking forward to serving the assembly and continuing the services we provide."

Student government officials nominated candidates to fill the vice president vacancy at the Wednesday meeting and will continue nominating candidates for the next two weeks.

Dobson said there should be a new vice president shortly after students return from winter break in mid-January.
