Prognosticators' special: Tigers version

Tom Keller — St. Louis' projected starting pitchers for the next three games: Chris Carpenter (reigning Cy Young winner), Jeff Suppan (1.86 ERA this postseason) and rookie Anthony Reyes (surrendered only four hits in Game 1 win). Even with Carlos Guillen and Craig Monroe hitting the cover off the ball, the Cardinals should win two of those games.

But with the series back in Detroit, Kenny Rogers breaks the consecutive playoff scoreless innings record — without the aid of pine tar/dirt/Flubber — and wins Game 6 to keep the series alive. And Nate Robertson, with lots of help from Joel Zumaya and the rest of the bullpen, leads the Tigers to a Game 7 victory, putting the finishing touches on a magical season that nobody — not even the Tigers — predicted.

Steve Highfield — The World Series moves to St. Louis, and the Tigers run into the Cardinals' top two starting pitchers — Chris Carpenter and Jeff Suppan — in Games 3 and 4. I fully expect the Tigers to take one of these two games and then win Game 5 against Cardinals' starter Anthony Reyes, who they'll be seeing for the second time. That means the Tigers will return to Detroit with two chances to wrap it up. I can't pick against that Comerica Park crowd, especially with playoff hero Kenny Rogers likely taking the mound for Game 6.

Matt Bishop — So we sit here with the series tied 1-1 after two games with the winning team getting a tremendous pitching performance in each game. Now, the Tigers head back to St. Louis where, if the Cardinals take care of business, they'll be World Champions. But, unfortunately for them, that ain't happening.

I know this sounds simple, but the team with better pitching will be the team that wins this series, and I'm thinking that's going to be the Tigers.

To be honest, all the pitching matchups for the three games in St. Louis are pretty even, but if Justin Verlander can make a decent comeback and Anthony Reyes doesn't pitch out of his mind again, the Tigers should be in good shape going back home for Game 6.

And in that Game 6? Well, Kenny Rogers comes back and sends Detroit into a frenzy with the Tigers' first World Championship since 1984.
