On Thursday, a 30-year-old woman reported her LaSalle Bank debit card and $500 missing and was able to trace the theft back to the MSU commencement ceremony on May 6. The woman, who is not affiliated with the university, said while she drove an acquaintance to the ceremony, she stopped at a drive-thru ATM and withdrew money, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. As the woman completed the transaction, the acquaintance joked that he knew her personal identification number and would take the card. The day after the commencement ceremony, the woman noticed the card was missing and noticed $500 had been withdrawn from her account, McGlothian-Taylor said. The woman also said several other transactions were made after the initial withdrawal. McGlothian-Taylor said she was unsure why the woman reported the fraud several months after it occurred or why she didn't put a hold on her account when she noticed the incident. MSU police detectives are in the process of following through with the investigation.Two Bryan Hall residents had items, including a wallet and iPod, stolen sometime between 2 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday. A 17-year-old man said when he returned from class, he threw his brown, trifold wallet onto his bed, left the room to take a shower and locked the door. When he returned, he was contacted by a Bryan Hall desk receptionist who said the wallet had been turned in. The man's roommate, an 18-year-old student, stated his blue Apple iPod Mini, which was inside a clear plastic case with "monster" written on it, was stolen during the incident, McGlothian-Taylor said. There are no suspects in the case, and officers said there was no sign of forced entry into the room.Maggie Lillis
