Who's up?

The Auburn head coach argued in favor of a college football playoff this week, and who can blame him? He coaches in — unquestionably — the toughest conference in the nation, the SEC. His team has to face the likes of Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee on a yearly basis. It's nearly impossible for an SEC team to run the table. Even when Tuberville coached his team to a perfect 13-0 season in 2004, the Tigers were left out of the national title game in favor of Oklahoma and Southern Cal.

The BCS is an improvement — at least No. 1 isn't playing in the Sugar Bowl while No. 2 plays in the Rose Bowl — but nothing would be better than a short playoff.

Yale football

In a story that couldn't possibly sound more stereotypical, two Yale football players, including the starting quarterback, were arrested after getting into a fight. As a result of the scuffle, a window at the Gourmet Heaven was broken. Where else would Yale students be hanging out? What, you think just because a guy got a 1600 on his SATs means he can't start some crap?

Brian Brohm

The Louisville quarterback, who dislocated his right thumb two weeks ago, should be in the lineup for the Cardinals' Nov. 2 game against No. 4 West Virginia — or as we at The State News like to call it, "The Only Big East Game Worth a Damn This Year."

Who's down?

Remember him? The much-maligned former Spartan took the field for Southern Mississippi on Tuesday, but completed just 11-of-27 passes for 98 yards and no touchdowns in a 20-6 loss to Tulsa. Just think: This guy was once ahead of Drew Stanton on the MSU depth chart.

Jeremy Young

In all fairness to Reaves, Young was even worse in Southern Mississippi's loss. He completed 3-of-12 passes for 25 yards and one interception before Reaves replaced him.

Rhett Bomar

The former Oklahoma quarterback received thousands of dollars for working a joke of a job at a car dealership and was dismissed from the team, but hey, at least he's sorry! Bomar recently sent a letter to the NCAA apologizing for taking the money, writing that he "got caught up in the limelight."

Sure thing, Rhett. All is forgiven. Pull on that No. 7 jersey and head to Norman. We're sure Bob Stoops will let you back on the field.
