Heisman watch

No. 1 — Troy Smith

Senior quarterback, Ohio State

Season: 56-of-81 passing for 769 yards and seven touchdowns.

A steady day against Cincinnati keeps Smith at the top. Penn State will offer a better test Saturday.


No. 2 — Adrian Peterson

Junior running back, Oklahoma

Season: 90 rushes for 515 yards and four touchdowns, three catches for 75 yards and one touchdown.

Peterson had 145 of his 211 yards in the fourth quarter last week.


No. 3 — Chris Leak

Senior quarterback, Florida

Season: 55-of-84 passing for 799 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions.

He led Florida to a big win at Tennessee and is now rewarded with a matchup against Kentucky.


No. 4 — Steve Slaton

Sophomore running back, West Virginia

Season: 62 rushes for 503 yards and six touchdowns.

Slaton cracks the list for the first time after gaining almost 200 yards rushing against Maryland.
