The bartender

June 23, 2006
Bartender Emily Zorza adds ingredients to the Maggy Martini at Maggy's Sports Grill, 16800 Chandler Road. The drink is mixed in a giant martini glass with lemons on the rim and several straws for sharing.

So you're just chillin' at Maggy's, right? And lets say you just happen to meet a flock of four of the flyest young hunnies your eyes have ever seen. What do you do? Obviously, you need to make a good impression. Face it, ya gotta buy a round of drinks.

Found only at Maggy's Sports Grill, 16800 Chandler Road, the Maggy Martini is one of the most impressive looking drinks in East Lansing and the perfect choice for impressing the ladies. Decked out in a gigantic Martini glass, the drink turns heads with its luxurious deep red hue, elaborate fruit ornaments and ominous stature.

The mixture is strong, sweet and satisfying. This is jungle juice perfected — the epitome of "floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee." The obscene amount of liquor is masked so well that you could bring this to your high school prom and serve it as punch without so much as a suspicious glance.

"It tastes like candy," said Maggy's bartender and 2006 MSU graduate Emily Zorza. "It's a good drink to buy if you meet a group of girls."

For parties, birthdays or special occasions Maggy's offers the perfect drink in the martini glass. If you're wondering about the competition, Zorza and patrons at Maggy's claim it's a much better substitute than a certain "fish bowl" of a similar nature. And if you want to impress the ladies, the Maggy's Martini is where it's at.

Maggy's Martini

FYI: This drink is alcoholic, so you must be 21 or older to purchase and consume it.

Supplies: A gigantic martini glass, a full stomach and at least four other friends

Ingredients:

1. One part Finlandia Lime Vodka

2. One part Finlandia Cranberry Vodka

3. One part Tuaca citrus liqueur

4. One part Southern Comfort

5. One part black raspberry liqueur

6. One part Sprite

7. One part sour mix

8. One part cranberry juice

9. Lemon and lime wedge garnishes

Cost: $10

Tastes like: The rich man's jungle juice. A masterful balance of boisterous berry flavor and eclectic spikes of sharp liquor in large amounts. The fruity blend perfectly disguises any hint of alcohol to the point of outright deception. However, be warned when ordering, as this is an extremely sweet drink. If you're looking for something more mellow, this will not be your cup of tea. Imagine a giant liquefied Jolly Rancher on ice. Remember to order only with a crowd, or you'll be sharing with the entire bar.

When you should order it: Order with at least four other people. Good for special events with big crowds or as a good "gift drink" for you and your boys to send to the ladies who have been looking in your direction all night.
