A 20-year-old male student reported a burglary that took place between 12 p.m. May 6 and 11:45 a.m. May 11 in Case Hall. The student stored his belongings in his dorm room May 6 and found the safety chain on the bathroom door of the two-room suite broken, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The broken chain caused $10 in damage, but the total estimated value of the loss is unknown.An unknown vehicle hit a parked car at an unknown time on April 28 in Ramp 4 near the Kellogg Center, Sgt. McGlothian-Taylor said. The parked vehicle was a gray 2003 Chevrolet Silverado.A police officer reported an unknown suspect set fire to papers on a bulletin board at 12:15 a.m. May 5 near Farm Lane and the trail alongside the Red Cedar River. The police officer was on patrol and saw the papers burning, but no one was around, Sgt. McGlothian-Taylor said. The East Lansing Fire Department responded to the call, but the officer was able to put out the flames with an extinguisher from his patrol car, she said. The bulletin board was not damaged.A 43-year-old female reported $45 missing between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. May 4 in the orthopedic ward of the Veterinary Medical Center. The cash was stolen from the woman's backpack, which was left unattended.Lindsey Poisson
