Take a peek behind the curtain and test drive the NEW StateNews.com today!

Winning band, others deserve recognition

I was overjoyed when it was announced that Frontier Ruckus was the winner of last week's Battle of the Bands. As an avid fan and president of its official fan club, the Crumbling Porches, it has been exciting to watch the band evolve from humble beginnings into something more.

When I grabbed The State News on Monday, that sweet joy I had experienced Friday turned sour when I saw, instead of Frontier Ruckus, Bad Mamma Jamma on the front page, "Shake, battle & roll" (SN 4/03).

One would expect the winner to receive this honor or perhaps a little more publicity than two short paragraphs, but there was no such thing.

All of the bands that graced the stage on Friday night's Battle of the Bands have poured their time and souls into creating their music. It would be nice in the future to perhaps have something about all the bands. After all, East Lansing isn't exactly the best locale for local music, and these bands can use all the press they could get.

For those of you who couldn't make it, I invite you to check Frontier Ruckus out this weekend when it opens for "Blue County" Saturday, or if country's not your thing, see the band Tuesday when it plays with Lucero at The Temple Club or listen to the band at www.myspace.com/frontierruckus. You'll like what you hear.

Frontier Ruckus, on behalf of all your fans out there, we are "the water you are pumping."
